The Big One Rod Upgrade Routine: Change One Step First
The Big One is a casual fishing RPG built around casting, waiting, hooking, reeling, equipment progression, 150+ fish species, 10 fishing locations, and Fishpedia collection. When you open the Shop, it is tempting to change rods, bait, and Net together, but the difference is easier to feel when one piece changes at a time.
This routine upgrades only the rod first, then returns to the same fishing location for a few casts. Keeping bait and Net unchanged makes the reeling feel easier to compare.
Learn the main rod line first
Before buying, picture your current rod and the next candidate side by side. These images come from the game resources and show the main progression line.

One-step upgrade table
| Situation | Change first | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Reeling often feels demanding at the same location | Upgrade only the rod by one step | Check whether the next few reels feel steadier. |
| You just opened a new location | Keep bait and Net unchanged first | This avoids mixing location changes with equipment changes. |
| You are chasing Fishpedia gaps | Pick bait after testing the rod feel | Targets feel clearer once the equipment baseline is stable. |
| Gold is limited | Make the next rod today’s single goal | One equipment goal is easier to read in a short session. |
Short comparison routine
1.Check the name of your current rod.
2.Cast a couple more times at the same location.
3.Change only the rod by one step.
4.Return to the same location and compare the reeling feel.
5.Set the Fishpedia or next-location goal afterward.
