The Big One Beach art guide: compare three fish silhouettes
As the developer of The Big One, I want to share a way to remember Beach fish before memorizing every name. Sand Smelt, Sand Lance and Sand Flathead belong to the same location pool, yet their body proportions and head widths make them easy to compare side by side.
Sand Smelt: a slender body with visible depth
The fish on the left has a silver flank and a body with noticeable height. Compare the thickness from behind the head toward the tail rather than relying on a single color. This is a guide to reading game artwork, not a biological classification or a spawn-rate guide.
Sand Lance: an almost continuous thin line
The middle fish has the narrowest, most elongated silhouette of these three illustrations. Even at thumbnail size, look for the thin line that continues toward the tail. The size used in this layout does not rank catch weight, rarity or sale value.
Sand Flathead: start with the broad head
The fish on the right stands out through its broad head, brown pattern and fins spreading to the sides. Comparing length alone misses these features. After checking the name on a catch result, revisit the head shape to make the next recognition easier.
Compare one Fishpedia entry at a time
If Beach is accessible in your game, check the three names and pictures in Fishpedia, then compare them with your actual catch records. We verified that all three are included in the Beach data for release 1.3.3; this does not guarantee a catch with a particular bait, at a particular time or on the next cast.
The public iOS version checked on October 11, 2026 is 1.3.3. This comparison combines artwork from that release and is not a gameplay screenshot. The capture build of current store screenshots is unknown; internal 1.3.4 work is not presented as a public update.
