The Big One pier picture guide: three fish side by side

Silvery catches can look alike at the pier. Check both the name and outline rather than relying on size; this guide places three official fish illustrations side by side.
I develop The Big One. This guide uses game data matching public iOS 1.3.3, checked on October 8, 2026; it is not an announcement of a new update.

Start with the names
Mackerel, Horse Mackerel and Japanese Halfbeak all belong to the Breakwater Pier pool in the matching release. The illustrations help recognition; they are not a chart of catch probabilities or actual sizes.
Compare the art with the result name
Look at the contrast between back and belly, body width and elongated outline one feature at a time. Confirming the catch-result name helps avoid identifying similarly colored fish from art alone.
Choose one Fishpedia target
Check which species you have caught and which you still want to pursue, then select one of these three names. This guide makes no promise that a particular bait or time guarantees a catch.
Names can differ across languages
Use the current game's displayed label rather than an image filename. The same asset can have different localized names; this article follows the shipped labels for this locale.
If you are new to the pier, read the casting and reeling guides too. After a catch, compare the result name with your Fishpedia record: that is a useful small goal for the next session.
