The Big One groundbait guide: read ripples and choose your cast

Arriving at a fishing spot does not always make the next cast obvious. In The Big One, ripples give you something concrete to inspect before you choose where to cast. This guide follows a small sequence: prepare ordinary groundbait, look at the water, select a target, and cast deliberately.

As the developer, I want to make one point clear first: groundbait is optional. You can fish without it. This guide uses public iOS 1.3.3, checked on October 3, 2026, and its matching release source. It describes existing play, rather than announcing an unreleased feature or promising a particular catch.

Start with ordinary groundbait

Buy ordinary groundbait with gold in the shop, then return to fishing. A small first attempt helps you learn the interaction before spending repeatedly on an effect you have not yet understood. You do not need to turn your first visit into a shopping session.

Tap the groundbait slot at the bottom left and choose a portion you own. Throwing it uses one portion. Check the selected type and remaining quantity before repeating the action. Keep the bait used on your hook and the groundbait thrown onto the water separate in your mental checklist; seeing one does not tell you the other is ready.

Read color and size separately

The game's guide uses ripple color as a hint about rarity and ripple size as a hint about the fish's size. A large ripple therefore should not automatically be treated as the highest rarity. Pause long enough to notice both signals rather than letting the most eye-catching one decide for you.

These cues help you choose a target. They are not a receipt for a completed catch or a promise of an exact final weight. If you are working toward a Fishpedia collection goal, observe the cue first and compare it with the record after a catch. That gives the next attempt a clearer purpose without inventing hidden probabilities.

Choose a point on the water, then use CAST

Tap or drag on the water to choose where to cast. Aiming close to a ripple targets that fish. Spotting a ripple and actually placing your target near it are two separate actions, so check that the selected point matches what you intended before starting the cast.

Hold and release CAST to cast at the chosen point. Keep target selection, casting, and the later bite, hook, and reeling stages distinct. Getting the first two right does not mean the fish has already been caught. The useful habit is to notice which stage you are in and respond to its signal, rather than judging the whole attempt from the ripple alone.

Keep a small observation from one attempt

For a first trial, use one portion at the same fishing spot and remember the ripple's color, its size, and the point you aimed at. Changing equipment, hook bait, and location together makes it harder to understand what differed. A short observation is enough; you do not need a spreadsheet or a claim about a guaranteed outcome.

If your target is unclear, pause and read the screen again. Understanding the sequence matters more than immediately buying more groundbait. The related bait-stock and Fishpedia guides below help you plan the next cast. Try a deliberate target in the mobile app, then judge the attempt by what actually happened at each stage.
